Limewall & Co. began with a straightforward observation: most interior paint goes on flat, sits flat, and stays flat. It covers a wall without giving it anything. Limewash does something different — it brings movement, warmth and depth to a surface, and it keeps giving as the light changes through the day.
We are a New York–based finishing studio specializing in hand-applied limewash and premium interior painting, working with homeowners, renters, interior designers and brick-and-mortar businesses across New York and the tri-state area.
The studio is intentionally small. Every project is led personally, every wall is approached individually, and every finish is considered in the light and context of the specific space. That is a deliberate limit on how much work we take on, and it is the part of the business we protect most carefully.
It also means the person who talks through your color is the person who applies it. Nothing is handed down a chain.
Kai came to it from a family of property developers, and as an investor and homeowner herself — someone who had hired enough contractors to know exactly what was missing. The original plan was a full-service contracting company: the one she always wished she could call.
Then, back in Singapore while the company was still taking shape, she interned at an interior design studio, was taught to lay limewash by hand, and changed the whole plan. Most rooms get the same two moves — flat paint, and something hung on it to make it interesting. Limewash was the proof that a wall can hold real depth and warmth on its own: a bold move and a quiet one at once, at ease beside whatever else you love.
Justin grew up around property too — a family of investors and developers, a stint in mortgages, and years of doing the fixes and tenant turnovers on his father’s buildings himself.
We would rather do fewer rooms properly than more rooms quickly. Preparation gets the time it needs, coats get the drying time they need, and a finish is not called done until it reads right in the room’s own light.
The materials follow the same principle. Limewash has been used for thousands of years because it works: it breathes, it ages gracefully, and it is made from lime and mineral pigment rather than plastic. It is zero-VOC, non-toxic, and naturally antimicrobial — which matters in a home people actually live in.
We work with artisan mineral finishes from makers such as Vasari and Color Atelier, chosen for how they behave under the brush and how they settle as they cure. The palette continues to grow, and we are glad to work outside it where a room calls for something specific.
Limewall & Co. is fully licensed and insured in both New York and New Jersey — NY DCWP #2133269 and NJ HIC #13VH-1390-4600 — and we handle building requirements and certificates of insurance where co-ops and managed buildings need them.
